Is CBD Really the Cure All Substance That Some Make It out to Be?

Cannabidiol (CBD) has recently become so hyped in the media and you may have seen it being promoted as a healthy complement with breakfast and after training. What exactly is the CBD? Why is it so popular all of a sudden?

What is the difference between CBD and marijuana?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most common active ingredient in cannabis (marijuana). Although CBD is an essential ingredient in medicinal cannabis, it comes instead directly from the hemp plant, a close relative to marijuana c.  Although CBD is a constituent of cannabis it does not by itself cause a high. According to a World Health Organization report, CBD has so far not shown any signs that it could lead to dependence and addiction. In fact to date, there is no evidence of health problems associated with the use of pure CDB.

Is it legal to take cannabidiol?

CBD can be easily obtained in most of the United States, although the exact legal status of the CBD is still changing. All 50 states have laws that legalized CBD with varying degrees of restriction, and although the federal government still considers CBD to be in the same class as cannabis, it’s ban is generally not enforced. In December 2015 The FDA has relaxed legal requirements to allow researchers to conduct research with the CBD. Many people now use the online CBD without a medical license for cannabis. The government’s position on the CBD is confusing and depends in part on whether the CBD is derived from cannabis or hemp. The legitimacy of the CBD should change as Congress currently has a bipartisan consensus on the recognition of the legal cultivation of cannabis, making it difficult for the CBD to be banned.

Evidence of the health benefits of Cannabidiol

CBD has been mentioned for many health problems, but the strongest scientific evidence is its effectiveness in treating some of the most cruel epilepsy syndromes in children, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, which usually do not respond to anticonvulsants. In many studies, CBD has been successful in reducing the number of seizures and, in some cases, in stopping them completely. Videos on the effects of the CBD on these children and their crises are easily accessible on the Internet and are very impressive. The FDA recently approved the first cannabis-based drug for these diseases, Epidiolex, which contains CBD.

CBD is widely used in the treatment of anxiety, and for patients with insomnia, studies suggest that CBD can promote sleep and falling asleep. For more on the benefits of CBD read more here!

CBD may offer an option to treat different types of chronic pain. A study by the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, that CBD applied to the skin can help reduce pain and inflammation due to arthritis. Another study revealed the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult forms of chronic pain in treatment. Further human studies in this area are needed to support the CBD members’ claims on pain management.

Is cannabidiol safe?

Side effects of CBD include nausea, fatigue and irritability. CBD can increase blood levels of the blood thinner coumadin as well as some other drugs by using exactly the same mechanism as grapefruit juice. One of the main safety risks associated with CDB is that it is sold mainly as a supplement rather than as a drug. Currently, the FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of food supplements. Therefore, you cannot be sure that the product you are buying contains the active ingredients in the amount indicated on the label. In addition, the product may contain other unknown ingredients. Nor do we know what the most effective therapeutic dose of CBD is for any specific health condition.

The Gist on CBD

Some CBD manufacturers have been probed by the government for wild and unsustainable claims, such as the fact that CBD is a cure for cancer, which is not true. We need more research, but it can be shown that CBD is an option to control anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain. In the absence of sufficient and high quality evidence in human studies, we cannot determine effective doses, and since CBD is now available as an unregulated supplement, it is difficult to know for sure what you are getting. Finally if you decide to try CBD make sure you are getting a CBD product such as CBD Pure that guarantees the ingredients it is made. Additionally make sure that the CBD will not interfere with any medications you may be taking.
